Chinese health officials have called for graphic health warnings to become compulsory on all of the country’s cigarette packs. At the moment Chinese cigarette packs only feature a text warning that states Smoking is harmful to your health’. The proposed measures would see an image accompanying this text in an effort to drive home the point to China’s millions of smokers.
The proposal new will now have to be officially ratified by the National People's Congress for it to become law. Health officials have launched an online petition at the popular website Sohu.com to this end, hoping to get the volume of responses necessary to pushing the new legislation through.
